About the Canadian Constitution Foundation

The Canadian Constitution Foundation is a national civil liberties organization that works to protect the constitutional rights and freedoms of Canadians through litigation, education, and advocacy. We are regularly involved in high-profile constitutional litigation, including the Cambie Surgeries case, the Emergencies Act challenge, and the Nova Scotia fire lockdown challenge. We appear regularly in the Supreme Court of Canada and in courts across the country.

Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled constitutional lawyer to contribute to high-impact legal work involving constitutional research, drafting, and advocacy. This is an excellent opportunity for a lawyer seeking to deepen their expertise in constitutional law while working on matters of national significance and honing their oral and written advocacy skills.

Contract Duration: 8-10 months
Location: Remote (location flexible across Canada)
Travel: May be required for court appearances and meetings
Start Date: February 2026

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive constitutional law research and legal analysis on complex issues
  • Help identify high-impact litigation opportunities
  • Draft factums, legal memoranda, and other legal documents to support constitutional litigation and advocacy
  • Prepare written and oral submissions for various courts and tribunals
  • Provide strategic legal advice on constitutional matters
  • Collaborate with external counsel and other team members on case strategy
  • Represent the CCF in court proceedings and administrative hearings as required
  • Monitor and analyze relevant case law, legislative developments, and policy changes

Qualifications

Required:

  • Member in good standing of a Canadian provincial or territorial law society
  • Minimum 3 years of call to the bar
  • Demonstrated experience in constitutional law
  • Strong legal research and analytical skills
  • Excellent written and oral advocacy abilities
  • Ability to prioritize deadlines and be self-directed
  • Proven track record of drafting high-quality legal documents
  • Familiarity with and passion for the freedom movement and constitutional liberties

Preferred:

  • Experience with Charter litigation
  • Familiarity with administrative law and judicial review
  • Background in appellate advocacy
  • Experience working with non-profit organizations or public interest litigation
  • Bilingualism (English and French) is an asset
