In this video I discuss a new federal government proposal to censor and regulate speech online in Canada. The new proposal is not yet a law, and the government is taking online comments.
The proposal is to regulate what the government calls “online harms” and remove illegal content from the internet. While the content at issue is terrible, the government’s proposal goes too far and will result in non-criminal content being restricted. This will cause damage to our right to free expression.
