The CCF secured a free speech victory for B.C. realtor Corbin Chivers after his professional regulator withdrew a caution letter over political views he expressed online.

In June 2026, the BC Financial Services Authority (BCFSA) sent Chivers a caution letter over social media posts about Indigenous land claims and the closure of Joffre Lakes Provincial Park to non-Indigenous visitors. The regulator called his comments “polarizing,” “inflammatory” and “discriminatory,” and warned that they could bring the real estate industry into disrepute.

On September 9, 2026 CCF Litigation Director Josh Dehaas and Counsel Alexander Surgenor warned the BCFSA that its actions violated Chivers’ freedom of expression under the Charter and demanded that the caution letter be removed from his file.

Just over a week later, the BCFSA backed down, withdrawing the letter and confirming it would not form part of Chivers’ record.
