TORONTO – The Canadian Constitution Foundation (CCF), the nation’s leading civil liberties charity, continues to grow its impact and influence, and is pleased to welcome Alexander Surgenor as its newest Counsel, effective today.
Surgenor completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Toronto and earned his Juris Doctor from Osgoode Hall Law School. While in law school, he wrote for the student newspaper and served as a mediator with Osgoode’s Mediation Clinic. After being called to the bar in 2024, Surgenor worked as a criminal defence lawyer in Ontario and Saskatchewan, representing clients at the provincial, superior, and appellate court levels.
“Our rights and freedoms are essential to the political health of our society,” said Surgenor. “I am honoured to join the CCF in its invaluable work safeguarding them and am thankful to donors for their support.”
Christine Van Geyn, the CCF’s Interim Executive Director, noted that Surgenor’s background practicing law in different parts of Canada will be a major asset to the CCF.
“With Alexander joining us, the CCF gains a skilled advocate who has handled cases across the country and whose courtroom experience will be critical to our success defending Canada’s Constitution,” said Van Geyn.
