CCF Litigation Director Christine Van Geyn has major concerns that the next generation may lose essential freedoms like free speech and the right to dissent – unless we actively teach them these values. We all have a responsibility to model respectful disagreement, use words instead of violence, and stand up to government overreach.
In this video, Christine introduces her new children’s book, Maple’s Garden, which teaches kids about freedom of expression and the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms through the story of a young girl who defends her wild garden from government interference. Inspired by real legal cases, the book offers a gentle, engaging way to start important conversations with children about how to think about their rights.
